Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated: 26 September 2026Version 1.0

Zentiq lets organisations and people create AI avatars that look, sound and talk like real people. That is powerful, and it can be misused. This Acceptable Use Policy (the Policy) sets out what you may not do with the Service. It forms part of our Terms of Service, and words with capital letters have the meanings given there.

The Policy applies to every customer, every Authorised User and anyone else who uses the Service, our APIs or an avatar through a customer's deployment. If you are a customer, you are responsible for making sure your Authorised Users and End Users follow it.

1. Four principles

  • Be honest that it is AI. People must always know when they are talking to, or watching, an AI.
  • Only use a real person's face or voice with their permission. Consent comes first, every time.
  • Respect the people on the other side of the screen. Learners, staff, visitors, candidates and children deserve to be treated fairly and lawfully.
  • Keep the platform safe. Do not attack, overload or work around the Service or its safeguards.

The rules below apply these principles. They are not a complete list: if a use is unlawful, harmful or deceptive, it is not allowed even if it is not named here.

2. Faces, voices and likeness

You must not:

  • create a Custom Avatar, voice or any other likeness of a real person unless that person (or, for a child, a parent or legal guardian) has given informed, written consent that covers how you will use it, and you can show us that consent when we ask;
  • use a person's likeness or voice outside the scope of their consent, or keep using it after they withdraw consent;
  • create an avatar or voice of a politician, public official, celebrity, other well-known person or deceased person, unless you hold all the rights needed and the use is lawful where it is seen or heard;
  • use a library avatar to represent a specific real person, or suggest that the person whose likeness a library avatar is based on endorses you, your products or your views;
  • use any likeness in a way that is sexual, degrading, defamatory, hateful or likely to damage the reputation of the person depicted;
  • upload photographs, video or audio that you do not have the right to use.

Where a law gives extra rights to performers or to the people depicted (for example laws on digital replicas, rights of publicity and voice rights), you must follow it.

3. Honesty, disclosure and deception

You must not:

  • remove, hide, disable, shorten or contradict the notice that tells people they are interacting with an AI, or instruct an avatar to claim to be human or to deny being an AI;
  • remove, alter or interfere with any watermark, machine-readable marking, content credential or label that identifies content as AI-generated;
  • create or share deceptive deepfakes: content that would falsely appear to a reasonable person to show a real person saying or doing something they did not say or do;
  • impersonate any person, business, school, government body or other organisation, or falsely claim an affiliation with them;
  • use the Service for fraud, phishing, scams, social engineering, fake customer support or any attempt to obtain money, credentials or personal data by deception;
  • publish AI-generated video or audio of people without the labels the law requires (for example deepfake labelling under the EU AI Act, and disclosure rules for synthetic performers in advertising).

4. Illegal and harmful content

You must not use the Service to create, request, store or share content that:

  • sexualises, exploits or endangers children in any way, including child sexual abuse material of any kind, real or generated;
  • is sexually explicit, or shows nudity, or is intimate imagery of any real person (whether real or generated) shared without their consent;
  • promotes or supports terrorism, violent extremism or serious violence, or threatens anyone;
  • harasses, bullies or intimidates people, or attacks them on the basis of a protected characteristic such as race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or age;
  • encourages suicide, self-harm or eating disorders;
  • gives instructions for weapons capable of mass harm, or for other serious crimes;
  • infringes anyone's intellectual property, privacy or other rights, or is defamatory;
  • is otherwise unlawful where it is created, used or seen.

5. Children

  • Accounts are for adults. Children may use Zentiq only through a school, family or other deployment that uses the features we provide for young users, with the consent or authorisation the law requires.
  • You must not use the Service to contact, groom, manipulate or exploit a child, or to engage a child in romantic, sexual or otherwise age-inappropriate conversation.
  • You must not collect personal data from a child, or create a likeness of a child, without verifiable consent from a parent or guardian or, where the law allows it, authorisation from the child's school for educational purposes.
  • You must not switch off or work around the safeguards we apply to young users.

6. Surveillance, biometrics and emotion recognition

You must not use the Service:

  • to record, monitor or track people covertly, or to record or transcribe a conversation without the notice and consent the law requires;
  • to identify or verify who a person is from their face or voice, or to build or search a database of faces or voiceprints;
  • to infer the emotions of people at work (including job candidates) or in education, where the law prohibits it (for example under Article 5 of the EU AI Act), except where the law allows it for medical or safety reasons;
  • to categorise people by their biometric data to deduce their race, political opinions, trade union membership, religious or philosophical beliefs, sex life or sexual orientation;
  • for social scoring, or to exploit anyone's age, disability or social or economic situation, or to use manipulative or deceptive techniques that distort people's decisions and are likely to cause them significant harm.

7. Hiring, decisions about people and other high-impact uses

  • Human review. You must not use avatars, scores, summaries or reports from the Service as the only basis for a decision that has legal or similarly significant effects on a person, such as hiring, firing, promotion, pay, admission, grading, discipline, credit, insurance, housing or access to healthcare. A qualified person must review the relevant information and be able to change the outcome, and people must be able to ask for that review.
  • Lawful hiring. If you use an AI interviewer or any other part of the Service in recruitment, you must give candidates every notice the law requires before the interview, obtain every consent the law requires, offer an alternative process or reasonable adjustments where required, commission any bias audit the law requires, and comply with anti-discrimination and employment laws. This includes, where they apply, the Illinois Artificial Intelligence Video Interview Act, New York City Local Law 144, Colorado's automated decision-making law and the EU AI Act.
  • No regulated advice. You must not present an avatar as a doctor, lawyer, financial adviser, therapist or other licensed professional, or use it to provide regulated professional services, unless you are authorised to provide those services and a qualified person remains responsible for them.
  • No critical systems. You must not use the Service in emergency services, medical devices, the control of critical infrastructure, weapons or any other setting where a failure or error could lead to death, serious injury or serious damage.

8. Elections and political content

You must not use the Service:

  • for political campaigning, fundraising or advocacy for or against a candidate, political party or ballot measure;
  • to create avatars or voices of candidates, elected officials or political parties' representatives;
  • to spread false or misleading information about when, where or how to vote, or to discourage people from voting.

9. Security and platform integrity

You must not:

  • access, or try to access, any account, data or system you are not authorised to use;
  • probe, scan or test the vulnerability of the Service, except as allowed in Security research below;
  • interfere with or overload the Service, including by denial-of-service attacks, excessive automated requests or sending malicious code;
  • get around rate limits, usage limits, minute allowances, content filters, safety features, age safeguards or the AI disclosure;
  • copy, reverse engineer, decompile or extract the models, weights, prompts or source code behind the Service, or use the Service or its outputs to build or train a competing product or model;
  • share your sign-in details, API keys or session passes, or let anyone use them outside your organisation;
  • resell, sublicense or provide the Service to third parties, except as your plan or a written agreement with us allows;
  • use the Service to send spam or unsolicited messages.

Security research

We welcome good-faith security research. Before you test, ask for our written permission at privacy@zentiqai.com. While testing you must not access, change or keep other people's data, degrade the Service for others, or use social engineering or physical attacks. Report what you find to us promptly and privately, and give us a reasonable time to fix it before telling anyone else. If you follow these rules, we will not pursue legal action against you for your research.

10. Reporting misuse and illegal content

If you believe the Service is being misused, that content made with it is illegal, or that your own face or voice is being used without your consent, email legal@zentiqai.com with the subject line "Abuse report". Please include:

  • where the content or avatar appears (for example the web address, or the name of the website or app);
  • why you believe it breaks the law or this Policy;
  • your name and email address, so we can follow up (you may report child sexual abuse material anonymously);
  • a statement that you believe in good faith that the information in your report is accurate and complete.

We review reports promptly and act on them where appropriate, for example by removing content, disabling an avatar or suspending an account. We will tell you what we decided and, where the law requires it, explain our decision to the customer affected and how they can challenge it. If the report concerns your own likeness or voice, we will prioritise it and will disable the avatar while we look into it where the report appears credible.

11. Enforcement

If we reasonably believe that anyone has broken this Policy, we may investigate, remove or disable content or avatars, restrict features, suspend or close accounts, and report the matter to the authorities or to organisations the law requires us to report to. We will usually give notice first, but we may act immediately where the breach is serious, where people may be harmed or where the law requires it. Our rights under the Terms of Service also apply.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy as the law, technology and risks change. We will publish each new version here with a new date and, for significant changes, tell customers in advance by email or in the product.
